NOTTINGHAM CITY COUNCIL PRIORITISE CHILDREN’S DATA IN £500K CONTRACT WITH CAPITA EDUCATION SERVICES

Nottingham City Council has signed a contract with Capita Education Services to supply IT systems and services to help manage pupil data at the authority. Worth nearly £500,000, the implementation will allow the authority to manage school admissions, exclusions, transport and special needs provision using Capita Education Service’s EMS system, the central education management system used by 126 local authorities in the UK.
With the new system, the authority will be able to move away from using multiple databases in the management of pupil data, to using a single data storage area within EMS. If someone administering free school transport updates a pupil’s address, the change can be reflected across all the authority’s pupil management information. This will save a huge amount of data management work and improve the authority’s service to schools and parents.
EMS will automate many of the administrative tasks performed at the authority and speed up the process of delivering essential pupil information to schools in the area. Following the installation, the council will be able to inform schools instantly of any changes in benefit provision for each pupil, easily allocate school places based on a pupil’s exact requirements, and keep close track of pupil exclusions. The system will also allow the authority to successfully meet the government target of offering parents and guardians the option of applying online for school places by September 2006.
Sean Massey, Capita Education Services’ Director of Children’s Services, said: “Nottingham has very high standards regarding the level of service they wish to offer all their stakeholders – parents, pupils, schools and governmental policy makers. The EMS software and support services will enable them to deliver on these standards.”
