Expatindex launches new service for British expatriates.
From today a new internet based, information and shopping service for British and international expatriates is launched at: www.expatindex.com.
Expatindex Limited is a new venture company started by former expatriates: Jon Aslin and Joanne Tucker, based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
This service is unique in offering expats a focus point for information, as well as goods (including British food favourites) and services that can be purchased online. In addition to published information about expatriate services, there are facilities for open communication between expatriates grouped by country of residence.
The Foreign Office records a population in excess of 10million British nationals resident outside the UK. Emigration of British nationals from the UK over the last decade has exceeded the return, with an average of 123,000 leaving and 104,000 returning each year, according to Home Office records.
The launch of www.expatindex.com coincides with the UK introduction of the European Distance Selling Directive, which is incorporated into UK law from 31 October 2000. This important new legislation affects any internet or mail order company selling in the UK, and reinforces the consumers' statutory rights, including the right to cancel an order within 7 days of receipt of goods.
